National Youth Games, Abuja 2013.

The National Youth Sports Festival which as been scheduled to hold on the 5th to 15th of this month ( December 2013 ) at Abuja, experienced late arrival of athletes from various states which must have resulted from successive organization of two grassroots development competition, the National School Sports ( Under 13 & under 15 ) which was concluded on the 30th of November 2013 at Kwara state and the 1st National Youth Sports Festival (Under 17) which is the first of it's kind.

Arrival of Athletes

Athletes from various states who where conveyed by their various State Sports commission and sport body where seen to have arrived their camp (NYSC Orientation camp, Abuja) on Friday, 6th of December.

Screening Exercise

The Camp was filled with over aged athletes which is the usual practice in Nigeria when age is the criteria to compete in a sport event. The screening exercise start yesterday 7th of December around 3pm at the National Stadium, Abuja. Athletes where thoroughly scrutinized seeing over aged athletes disqualified from competing.

The Screening exercise was commended by a lot of athletes, coaches, and spectators who where there to observe the screening exercise because there wasn't any kind of sentiment involved and the true under 17 athletes will be given the opportunity to compete against their age group and showcase the talent they have in them.

Reactions

Reactions from various quotas is that Nigeria Sports will get better and the actual motive behind the organizing of youth sport events will be realized if screening exercise of such seen at the National Stadium, Abuja will keep occurring the way it was carried out.
