National Youth Games, Abuja 2013: A Success


The 1st National youth games which started on Saturday, 7th of December 2013 with the screening process of athletes, which was a fair process seeing many of the contingents who looked above 17 years old screened out of the competition, it also came to an end on Saturday 14th of December 2013 with a closing speech by the Minister of sports Mallam Abdullahi Bolaji.

Nestle milo was the grand sponsor of the youth games, refreshing everyone who were involved in anyway or the other as far as the National Youth Games was concerned. 

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony was a colourful event which started with march past from contingents representing each state. Whizkid thrilled the crowd as usual with his popular song "Caro" and others.

               

Competition Proper



The one week of talent display, competition spirit, spirit of sportsmanship which was seen from contingents of the 36 states of Nigeria started with a football match between Oyo state and Abia state who played with 10 players only against 11 players, which was a result of some players failing the screening process.
Contingents from different states where seen competiting in different sports like football, badminton, basketball, volleyball, handball, squash, tennis, table tennis, wrestling, taekwondo, track and field events, boxing and other interestin sports.
The competition ended with a final event known as Medley relay male and female category. Kwara state won the male Category and Cross River state also outran other state in the female category.

Award Presentation

Certificate was presented to the first, second, and third position in all events. National team call-up forms were also given to potential athletes to fill for futuristic purposes.

Closing Ceremony
Same as colorful as the opening ceremony, the spectators, athletes and fans were entertained by Larah and the Nestle milo cheer leaders. Speech from the Minister of sports and National anthem finally dropped the curtain of the programme.

Missed Out

All States were duly represented except Lagos State which was a surprise to everyone because Lagos state have always been a tough state to compete against and usually come out in flying colors in youth games.

Achievement by NSC
The main reason for organizing the competition "talent hunt" was achieved at the end of the competition, because elite and over aged athletes were not allowed to compete giving room for the up coming atheletes to show case their talent.
