OKAGBARE, EGWERO TOP LIST FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP


Blessing Okagbare and Ogho-Oghene Egwero top the list of 19 athletes the Athletic Federation of Nigeria released on Sunday for the World Athletics Championships in Russia.
The release, signed by the AFN’s technical director Navy Capt. Omatseye Nesiama, also said the list was provisional.
The list, made after national trials held at the U. J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, include male athletes Ogho-Oghene Egwero (B standard in100m-probation), Noah Akwu (B standard in 400m- probation), Leoman Momoh (B standard in 800m-probation); 4x400m relay team,  Noah Akwu, Abiola Onakoya, Isah Saliu, Tobi Ogunmola, and Gerald Odeka.

The female athletes on the list are Blessing Okagbare (A standard in 100m, 200, long jump), Ajoke Odunmosu (A standard in 400mH), Regina George (A standard in 400), Gloria Asunmu (A standard in 100m), Oluwakemi Adekoya (A standard in 400mH)  and Omolara Omotosho (B standard in 400m-probation).
Others are Josephine Ehigie (B standard in 400m- probation), Patience Okon (B standard in 400m- probation), Stephanie Kalu (B standard in 100m – probation) and Ugoma Ndu (B standard in 400mH – probation).
Okagbare, Asunmu, Peace Uko and Kalu make up the women’s 4x100m relay team, while the 4x400m relay team has George, Omotosho, Okon, Ehigie and  Bukola Abogunloko.
The athletes that failed to qualify but were close to the mark were given three weeks to qualify for the respective events. They include Doreen Amata (high jump), Ugonna Ndu (100mH), Tosin Oke (triple jump), Selim Nurudeen (110mH), Abiola Onakoya (400m) and the men’s 4x100m relay team.
