A red card per match
Once again, Real Madrid ended a game with ten players. Since the beginning of 2013, that has been the norm. Three games played and three red cards. The first player to be sent off was Sergio Ramos for a second yellow card offense. The centre-back was then handed a five-match ban for insulting referee Ayza Gámez.
After that came Adán's straight red card. The goalkeeper brought down Vela in what was a clear chance on goal. Iker came on for the starting keeper, whose one-match suspension saw him miss yesterday's game.
It was Kaká's turn in Pamplona. The Brazilian barely lasted 17 minutes on the pitch. He came on for Higuaín and straight away was given his first yellow card for elbowing Rubén whilst jumping for a ball. However, Kaká could have avoided his second yellow card.
He obstructed the taking of a free-kick, although the Osasuna player took full advantage of the situation by quickly taking a short free-kick directly at the Madrid player, leaving him little time to react. According to the rule book, that is a yellow card, end of story. In fact, Kaká walked off the pitch with his head bowed, fully aware that he'd walked into the trap and apologised to Mourinho before heading to the dressing room for an early shower.
Including Kaká's, Real Madrid has received 27 red cards since José Mourinho's arrival at the club. The strangest thing is that Real Madrid played better in the closing stages with 10 men.
